About the builder
Stetson Blackmore
Every post on this blog is written by me. I'm the owner of Stetson Design + Build, the license holder, and the person on your job site. When I write about costs, permits, or what good work looks like, it comes from doing the work, not from a content calendar.
Background
I grew up in St. George on my family's job sites. Before I could drive I was running trackhoes and backhoes, pouring flatwork, and framing walls: twelve years in the field. Then I got the textbook side too: a degree in Economics and Mathematics from the University of Utah, followed by three years in land acquisition for a regional homebuilder. Feasibility studies, entitlements, budgets, bid leveling, and development agreements negotiated with cities.
Credentials
- Utah B100 General Building Contractor: the broadest general contracting license the state issues. Utah DOPL 14282870-5501, held by Stetson Design + Build, LLC.
- Licensed Utah real estate agent. Few builders carry both licenses. It is why my advice reads like underwriting, not a sales pitch.
- Urban Land Institute, Utah District Council: active member and Young Leaders mentor.
- One of the leaders of the Builder Collective at Spark Realty, helping independent builders stand up operations of their own.
Where I build
Home base is St. George and Washington County. I also build across the Salt Lake metro and the Wasatch Back: Park City, Heber, Midway, and the surrounding mountain communities.
How I write
Plainly. Short sentences, defined terms, and no invented numbers. If a cost range appears on this site, it is either sourced or it is framed as the range I actually see on bids. When the honest answer is "it depends," I say so and then explain what it depends on.
